Hi Everyone,

I have a learning disorder and I have been getting accommodations for it since I was kid. I applied for accommodations to NBME as I have done with other standardized exams that I have taken (SATs, MCAT, AP etc). I even got re-tested because NBME wanted me to do it. However, they have been replying back to me with saying "what u can and can't do because of your disability", even after providing extensive documentation and letters from psychologists, universities, schools, they still keep harassing me and haven't provided me a accommodation permit.

This also happened to three of my friends from my school and they got furstated and took the exam. I need to start rotations, as I am getting behind . Has anyone got successful accommodations through NBME, please help.

I am very frustated with this whole process.

Thanks in advance.

What type of accomodations do you need, for what kind of exams (shelfs, boards, what?)? I personally am thinking of embarking on this process too because I have a difficulty as well and although I have always tried to do things w/out getting accomodations, it's becoming progressively more difficult. What kind of testing did you get and how long does the process take normally?

I got accomodations from them, and it was a struggle. My situation is even more concrete. I am a Type 1 Diabetic and found out from the dean that I had to get accomodations to 1)where my insulin pump, 2)bring my glucometer, and 3)bring snacks in case my sugar went too low during the exam. First I had to register with the Americans With Disabilities person at my school. I then had to provide that documentation, some from my MD, and just wait. It took around 8 weeks for the decision to be made, the whole process took prob 3 months. It certainly is frustrating, but I found calling your personal Accomodations Representative at the NBME (everyone gets one when they apply) can help nudge the process along... a little. Just be patient, hope it helps.

I did get a case coordinator but she always have the same generic response. It definitely frustating b/c I have been getting similar accommodations at my school. Good to hear that someone got some accommodations.

I really appreciate all the feedback from everyone. I know, very few people are probably in my boat.
