First of all I would like to congratulate everyone who has received interviews so far.. I must say that I am a bit jealous haha

When I first applied to dental school this year, I was feeling confident that I was going to get some interviews. According to predents.com stats from last year, I have average DAT scores and a great GPA for many schools.

My stats are as follows:

Residency: VA
AADSAS mail-out date: First batch, 1 recommendation was sent out 2nd batch
GPA: 3.94 sci, 3.72 overall
DAT (AA/TS/PAT/Reading/any section below a 17): (19/19/21/24/none)

I feel that my personal statement was well-done, over 150 hours of shadowing, plenty of extra-curriculars (ex. Pre-Dental Club President, ADW publishing, etc.), and I am hoping that my professors and dentist all wrote good LORs for me.

I applied to:

VCU
UPenn
Tufts
UNLV

The only thing I have heard from these schools so far is that they received my application... 🙁

I have some questions for anyone knowledgeable and kind enough to answer.

1. Since most of these schools have already sent out interview invites, do these schools keep sending out invites as the semester goes on? (I know that some schools have yet to send out invites)

I have seen a good amount people on this site with amazing stats apply to over 15 schools. They may get interview invites to all of the schools they applied to, but they can only end up choosing one school. So I'm hoping the schools that these top tier applicants applied to will then send out interviews to their lower tier options to fill their incoming class to capacity.. Is that how it works?

2. Should I still try applying to schools that I have a chance of getting an interview invitation or is it too late in the application process?

3. If yes to above, what schools should I apply to? With predents.com now gone idk where to look for average DAT scores, GPA, and % out-of-state statistics.

Find doc's spreadsheets with school stats and add a couple of schools. Your list is too short and a little reach'y.

You and I have very similar stats, In my opinion you need to hedge your bets a little and add a few more schools, it isn't too late, although pre-Dec interviews might be tough. I applied to 19 schools. I suggest USC, NYU, LECOM, the MWUs. Schools like these. I agree with the other poster, a few of those schools you listed may be a bit of a reach.

Why not Temple? great clinical school, and relative to other private schools, pricing is not bad.

Interviews will come soon, be patient!! but it wouldn't hurt to add a few! GL

Yeah Harvard, Columbia, and UPenn are probably out of reach even with your high GPA. Tufts hasn't started sending out interviews as far as I know. I would definitely add more schools though.

are those the only school you applied to?! I would recommend more school, especially when some of the schools you chose usually need a high DAT with a high GPA.

How about UOP? I think they've taken the President of our predental society each of the last three years, so they seem to value that experience.

Thanks for the advice. I will apply to some of those schools tomorrow.

Upenn and harvard are ivy league schools and its gonna get tough.

apply to WesternU, UNE (brand new school), Temple, Buffalo, BostonU, LECOM, Nova, MOSDOH, ASDOH, MWU-IL, MWU-AZ, USC, and Utah (brand new school)

try west virginia? and case western (i promise this is the last one, lol)

Your DAT scores make the majority of those schools almost out-of-reach but not hopeless (i.e. UPenn and VCU). You can forget Columbia (High DAT, average GPA) and Harvard (High DAT and GPA).

Getting an interview is a numbers game. After the interview everything else comes into play.
