first of all sorry i know this is another one of the what are my chances kinda post but....i really need to know before i get ready to empty my bank account
soo my gpa is 3.5 science is 3.3 ( it will of course get higher or lower after this semester) ..and i have some pharm experience and extracurriculars

and my PCAT from aug was only 50% i took it again

but if i dont get a better score lets say i get a 60% ....then is it worth applying??

and should i wait now till my october scores come back in the end of november or apply now.. i dont want to be wasting all this money and time on suppliment applications if i dont even have a chance...
most of the schools i am applying to consider 50% pcat and their average gpa for the class is around or lower than my gpa
do i have a chance????

In my humble opinion, you probably should waste your money in applying to top notch schools. A 50% PCAT score is not a very good outlook and a 3.5 GPA is not the best.

Have you ever thought about applying to Pharmacy schools that do not require a PCAT examination? Thought it might be too late to transfer into one of these schools (for they don't have much space).

Think, a response like the above is why I think you should research the schools and PM individuals you see have a consistent record in giving valid advice on the board. 3.5 is a great GPA and while 50% is not competitive, you can always wait for your OCT PCAT results in November to estimate your chances. What is wrong with applying? At some point you have to spend the money. For example if you look for an earlier thread I started (today), I wanted some ideas whether I should apply to other schools outside of Florida. I asked that question for the same reasons (money as out of state is more expensive); this question is also more valid because I can be rejected outright. But I'm not going to ask a question about whether I should apply, say to a local school. Again, 3.5 is a great gpa!

I have a 3.2 science/math gpa and will have 3.3+ overall gpa; I'll be one of the first to post on here after I earn an acceptance!

i think your gpa is decent to get accepted, but your pcat score will definitely bring down your chances of getting in. perhaps, you might want to apply to the schools that dont require the pcat or try newer schools. because i was in the same boat last year, and i didnt get in because of my pcat scores (even though i was interviewed). if you want to save your money, then you can always wait til you receive your pcat scores in nov, then decide. in the meantime, you can just prepare your personal statement and fill out the pharmcas application. so if you receive a decent score in nov, then at least you're prepared to submit the application. well, good luck!

i think you can still apply to schools that do not take PCAT right now. Because the earlier you apply the better your chances. Do not wait for you October scores before applying to school that do not require pcat because you might not get it until beginning of December.

i think it depends on the classes u took that earned u that 3.5. if u have taken biochem, micro bio and other upper division classes then a 70 pcat should get u a very good position. while 70 pcat isnt bad it is very iffy if thats a word lol. i think u should still try and apply whats a few bucks here and there. to get accepted with a 60 pcat u will need to show u can do well in rigorous courses that are taken at the university level. anyways gluck

exactly but how many pre-pharm students u know took aton of rigorous courses (pre-reqs arnt necessarily rigorous maybe orgo) at the upper division like biochem etc, only a few. so imo that would counter balance things in a way but again as i said a 70 pcat is iffy. i would aim for anything 75 and above.

that is true, but remember, $500-600 is nothing compared to the mountains of debt you will accrue once you go to school. (like me, who will owe over $200k in debt by the time i'm out.)

What's your tuition like? That's a lot of money. I'll probably have $85,000-90,000 in debt by May 2010. I'm just ready for the Stafford subsidized loans. We aren't considered graduate students until our third year 😡. They have some backwards idea that a Pale grant, maximum of $2,000/semester, is more beneficial than a subsidized loan. I think it's bs.
