Dear fellows and ADCOMS of SDN, I humbly request some guidance as to which schools might look upon my application with favor in the coming 2020-2021 cycle. As my previous posts and this category might indicate, I am a non trad who underwent @Goro plan for reinvention within the last year and excelled at a DIY post bacc at my local 4 year university. I understand this troubling time ahead of all of us and hope everyone is able to hang in there, and I thank everyone who is still able to do their part and maintain this awesome community! I have no preference for MD or DO schools, but as I understand DO schools would look more favorably my way.
Stats: CA resident (Iranian-American, I do not know how that relates to Minority status)
MCAT: 509 (unbalanced, 128,125,130,126), I have taken the test 2 times prior, 503 (3 years ago) and 501 (2 months before 509)
cGPA: 3.2 (2.8 undergrad, 3.9 for 31 sem hours of only bcpm courses)
sGPA: 3.2 (same as above)
shadowing: 60 (surgical trauma and family practice)
Clinical Work: Pharmacy technician 3 years, 2500 hours (included due to a promotion i received during my 2nd year that made me responsible for being in direct conversation with providers and insurance companies as I managed multiple specialty patients treatment options and delivery adherence). Currently a caregiver on reserve due to these trying times, expected to have 600 hours by september
Non Clinical Work: 1 season as the Head coach for high school JV swim team
Clinical Volunteering: 100 hours as a general volunteer at California Careforce run free dental clinics for veterans and those without insurance
Non clinical volunteering: 250 hours working at a homeless refuge/emergency school for relocated families. Currently in process for online volunteering
Research: 200 hours as part of a research lab (Lab research project put on hold during covid-19 crisis) More Research is secured for following year as part of a cadaver dissection team for human anatomy classes.
Former 5-year D1 Athlete (Swimming, if you were interested!)
I have recently started cold calling open private practices to understand how their practices is fairing and any strategies they have adopted to combat this crisis as part of my general curiosity sparked by my emerging infectious disease course. I mention this as maybe something comes out of it, perhaps a potential DO online shadowing?
I also have attended online fairs for ATSU-COM and PCOM, but those are the only DO schools I have researched thus far.
I thank you all again for your time.
