Hi all,

I'm probably in the same situation as some of you, accepted at one school and waitlisted at my top choice. I'm now pretty high up on the waitlist, and the director of admissions has been very encouraging, though I've only spoken to her 2-3 times (once when I visited the school and ran into her, once when she happened to answer the main number). I usually speak with the personal assistant/secretary who answers the phone, who I like very much. I never know whether it's helpful to speak to the director of admissions, or whether it looks bad to ask for her. Those of you on the waitlist, do you speak to whomever answers or ask for the director? What do you advise?

Thank you.

Have you sent a letter of intent? include any activities (shadowing/volunteering etc.) you have done since you first turned in your application. This might help them know how serious you are about that school.

Yes, I sent a letter of intent - unfortunately it was never received the first time (sent the day after my interview, found out after I was waitlisted they never got it, but then resent it and they got it). I just had a research abstract (with my name as one of the authors) submitted but not yet picked up/approved, I didn't know whether to tell them or if it only helps once it's approved for publication or presentation.

Any advice? Do you all speak with the director of admissions when you call to check your status on the waitlist or with whomever answers the phone?
