Just curious as to whether anyone out there has any advice, links, contacts, etc. for possible work or research opportunities overseas (possibly England) that I could possibly obtain as I will be finishing my first year of medical school and would like to be overseas for the summer and also gain some clinical or research experience in the process.

ok i can't be much help at all, but have you looked at any of the major universities in the area you'll be in? start with browsing their research webpages, and start writing emails! that's all the advice i can give, really lol...
