Hey guys, I just called UOP to ask if I could update my shadowing hours and the woman I spoke with said that section of my app is blank. 😱 Then, I called AADSAS and they said UOP should have gotten that section and there's no way it could have been lost electronically or anything. AADSAS told me to call UOP back and tell them to talk to a specific person at AADSAS. UMMMM, I REALLY don't want to tell UOP what to do. Is it possible she just overlooked the section? I still need to update my shadowing hrs. though, because they are less than their recommended of 40 (I have 33 hrs.). I think I'll call back tomorrow and see what happens...any advice??? (BTW, is less than 40hrs. of shadowing for UOP a deal breaker when it comes to getting an interview?)

OK, I realize that I may be sounding like a raving maniac. Has anyone else been told that part of their app is blank, when the AADSAS website shows what you entered?

Can't you just get another letter from your dentist and send it to the school?

Thank you for replying...UOP said that AADSAS would have to re-send that section. I'm going to call a couple other schools tomorrow and see if they can see them. It's pretty scary because my app is complete at IU (or so I thought) and they're giving out interviews already...thanks again for coming over from the dent forum and replying. 🙂

I would think that they'd like you to have at least 40 hours by the time you matriculate. I can't imagine UOP denying you an interview solely on the fact that you have 33 hours instead of 40...plus you still have another year before you would even start dental school where you could shadow tons.

I hope you're right.

I just called another school and they also said the section containing my dental shadowing hours (and my 2 years of volunteer firefighter/emt service) is blank. Has anyone else had this problem?

i would be so frustrated if i were you! can you call the aadsas and see what happened. I havent submited my application yet so i havent run into this problem

good luck!!

Yes, I'm quite frustrated and depressed...there may be schools deciding which "stack" to put my app in and they think I have 0 shadowing hours. With my gpa I have to get early interviews and this sucks.

AADSAS says that their management will look at the situation and send me an e-mail in 3-4 days with a resolution. I'm lucky that I found out it was blank...I can't believe that we don't receive a hardcopy of what the schools are sent. +pissed+ 🙁

Get the dentist that you shadowed to write a letter vouching for the fact that you have had 33 hours of shadowing and send it to *all* of the schools you applied to. also explain to the schools what happened and call each one individually. i would also write a letter expalining all of the things that you have done and that it should be included on your application and mail it to the schools.

good luck and i agree...we should be sent a copy of the aadsas papers because it's not fair that we wouldn'tknow if they make a mistake. :meanie:

Good advice. 🙂 I've been individually calling the schools that I know might be reviewing the app soon. I'm about to send some e-mails as well. I'm going to wait until Friday to see what AADSAS is going to do before I send letters out.

I just spoke with AADSAS and they sent a second set of my app with inserts out this morning via express mail. 🙂

So, I guess the lesson is: call a school and make sure they have each section of the app you filled out.

Another update: the second set is also blank and the AADSAS rep says that all he can do is re-submit the issue to management. Why can't the management just send schools a letter saying what was entered and should have been in my frickin app.

Am I the only unlucky person out of 10,000 applicants that has had a section go missing? This is why I don't play the lottery. 🙂

and the thing is, aadsas charges so much for the processing fee, and they can't even get their damn job straight...

anyway, i'm sorry you had to go through this, but hopefully the dental schools will understand...

I hope the schools understand too, maybe it's like free advertising. 😀

Anyhow, I think AADSAS should refund 10% of our app fee for every error and send a complimentary bottle of Advil to each applicant.

I almost missed the 😉 ...and joke or not, you may be right...I don't think anyone with my gpa and zero shadowing hours gets into dental school.

Your email scared the pants off me!! From what I understand you ACCIDENTALLY found out that they had messed up??? THAT'S CRAZY! I hate that AADSAS has a monopoly on these apps, and I HATE that there is no hard copy involved. In all of the people applying, there are bound to be mistakes, don't they understand that? What would your advice be? Should I just call school randomly and see if they have all the pieces? I am freaking out!! Thanks for your help!

for those of you who have applied to UOP, does the school actually require you to show a proof from dentist confirming that you've shadowed 40+ hours?
Can you just list down that you will get 40+ hours soon even though you have shdaowed 34 hours?

See posts called "mailed on July 22" and "AADSAS might have lost part of your application" a couple of pages back. They did loose Extracur. Activ. section of many applicants (it might be the case for all the applicants, who knows), so don't be satisfied when the lady tells you that it's just a mistake. The sad part is that the revision sent the school two weeks where not received, so I had to send it to the school directly. Same goes for my foreign transcript - they never mailed it out. 😡 Other part of the application might be blank as well and, hopefuly, we will find out about it befoer it's too late.

They don't require proof...and I guess that might be the difference between a less honest person getting an interview that a completely honest person won't get. 😉

Did you print out a copy of your AADSAS application before you submitted it? Ask schools that say you're missing that section if you can send in your copy...so they evaluate it beforehand, and in the meantime, get the AADSAS issue sorted out.

Something similar happened to my application, and Pacific (it's Pacific now, not UOP) agreed to do it that way.

Good luck.

I have an electronic printout. I e-mailed them and explained the situation and every school said that they'd consider the info. in the e-mail (my hours and volunteer experience). I believe they can look at the electronic version, just as I can, and see it. I had thought that AADSAS had finally fixed the problem, even though I know that the second app they sent out was still blank. Anyhow, I've already had an interview, so it seems that it's not adversely affecting anything too much.

I spoke with one school that explained the problem this way. Apparently, if the Avg. Weekly Hours was left blank, it caused the the entire experience to be removed. So unless you left that column blank for all experiences, the entire section should not have been blank. Anyway, she told me AADSAS was aware of the situation and sent updates.

You know I actually considered that might have been the problem.
