Hey all,

I am currently working as a medical technologist and am planning to apply to dental school during the next cycle. I attended my freshman year of college in University of Washington, which operates on a quarter system, then transferred to SUNY Stony Brook, which goes by semesters. I took a total of 10 quarters of general chemistry in UW, and when I transferred to Stony, they just gave me 8 semester hours for it (the equivalent of 12 quarter hours) and I was able to get into Orgo and subsequently all other classes that required 1 years worth of gen chem(this included the Clinical lab program I graduated from that requires one years worth of general chemistry). I am going to start calling dental schools and ask about my situation, but I was wondering if anyone in this forum has any advice/thoughts on it. Do I need to go back and take 2 quarter hours of general chemistry? Or might the admission committees be willing to overlook this? Any feedback would be nice, thanks!

10 quarters worth of gen chem should be plenty. 😎

I ran into the same problem coming from a quarter school (UCLA)... It was never a problem.

Thats a huge relief to hear! Thanks for your feedback 🙂

Oops, hahaha...i should've worded that better.😛 imagine 10 quarters of gen chem....

It depends on the school. Tufts requires 8/12 units of gen chem but if you have 8/12 units of ochem, they'll substitute 1 of your gen chem quarter with an ochem.
