helpppp! ok i found out my state school has you do assisting first year and they don't allow wireless in the classroom. the thing about assisting is that i think in first year, you're really not going to have that great of a fund of knowledge for dentistry, so i don't think you'd learn too much from assisting. when i shadowed, i felt i was watching somebody else be a dentist, just like standing there and watching somebody else read a book. also, i feel that if you don't have wireless in the classroom, how can you look up stuff like wikipedia? also i heard there are foreign teachers at the school (worried about difficult accents). there is also cell biology, which i took in undergrad and wasn't really that into it.

buffalo is cold, but the faculty seems really cool and the environment seems really good. plus you get your own chair, how cool is that. there is family pressure on me to go to my state school, but some people in my family aren't really that nice to me and don't care if i succeed in school anyways. i think it might be better for me if i was farther away.

buffalo...a little scary though, b/c its a long way from where i am and i dont know anybody around there.

please give your advice!!

also at first glance, i thought my state school would be way cheaper, but it's not and buffalo's tuition even includes a new computer. also i think cost of living would be cheaper in buffalo. but if i went there my family would be MAD probably.

You will be assisting your first year in Buffalo too and there are lots of faculty who do not speak english as a first language as well. That is something you will find everywhere. As for assisting, you have to learn sometime right?

As for the no wireless, that is probably a good thing...you will spend less time shopping and more time studying. If you don't like biology, dentistry is going to be tough for you...a good bit of the curriculum at UB requires a foundation in cell bio. It may not be expressly taught, but you need to know it.

For better advice, we are going to need to know what your state school is too.

it's not that i hate biology, it's just that i've already had to memorize the krebs cycle, pentose-phase and all that glorious stuff already so it gets a bit redundant

I was really impressed with Buffalo when I interviewed there last year. Not sure which state school you're talking about but Buffalo, in my opinion, seemed like a great place to go.

Buffalo Pro's:
-Probably the best education you can get for the price tag
-Theres everything to do in UB, Buffalo Bills games, not too far from toronto, right at niagara falls, best food, cheapest standard of living i've ever seen, (Im from NYC), cheapest houses ever, I love snow and wintery stuff, lake eerie and ontario, fishing, camping, all that good stuff
-Great faculty, although I've heard of some wackos, but wat school is perfetto
-we all get new mac laptops our first year, although I wish they gave us the option to buy it ourselves
-everyone seemed pretty happy there from what i've seen
-own chair
-good board scores
-lots of resources, one of the biggest research schools in this country, chances to go abroad and help out

I cant wait to go. Hope this helps!
