Is it okay to say in your statement of purpose for the back-up masters programs that you plan to obtain further education at the doctoral level after completion of their program?

I go on to say that I'm applying there because they offer a thesis track and it would give me the preparation I need to succeed in a PhD program.

It's the truth, but I'm hesitant to say it because then they know they're a back-up for me.

I would greatly appreciate any advice or input!

State it differently... "My goal is to attain a Ph.D. and I realize that the completion of a Masters degree is one path that many successful students use to attain this goal."

Wordsmith it to your liking... put a positive spin on it.

Mark
