I am nervous about my GPA and what exactly to focus on for the summer in terms of making me a better candidate for PT schools. My current situation is I will graduate in June with these stats:

Cumulative GPA: 2.94
Physics 1- C - retaking in fall 2013
Physics 2- C
Physics 3- B+
Chem a - C - retaking fall 2013
Chem b- B
Chem c-B+
Anatomy - A
Physiology -A
Biology - B
Animal bio - C+
stats - B
Psychology- C retaking summer
Abnormal Psychology - B

HAVE NOT TAKEN GRE

Ob hours: 110 at out patient- sports clinic

What are my chances in acceptance?
What should I focus on for the summer session?
What can I do to become a stronger overall candidate?

Your chances as they stand are not that great. You will have several c's in pre reqs when you apply (even though you are going to retake them in the fall, these grades will still be your first impression.) You only have 110 hours in one setting (outpatient). Not good enough. You need inpatient, SNF, etc. GRE is another big factor. You need >150 in both and a 4 or > in writing. Don't forget killer lor's.

BTW, what is chem a? If that is chem 101 don't bother retaking that it isn't even a pre req.

Yeah, Nicole nailed it pretty much... You will have to nail your retakes. You will NEED a 4.0 in them... If you don't get a 4.0, they will see you have x amount of retakes and wonder why you didn't "get it" the second time around unfortunately...

As for your hours, you will need a lot more hours of a various settings: Inpatient, Nursing Homes..etc. Get a good variety!

As for GRE, your going to have to nail that sucker...give yourself at least 2-3 months to full out study for it. No joke. I took the old GRE and blew it off by lightly studying for a month. I didn't do so hot on it...I studied hardcore for a month, took it again. Still didn't do so hot. Studied another month hardcore again. Finally, got it the third time around after spending $450 total on that dumb exam ($150/attempt a few years ago for me). And the new GRE is much harder than the old one...

How are your Letters of Recommendation coming along? I would assume you probably have a good PT by now to write one for you...but how about a professor? They are usually the hard ones..

I say this to everyone...I would also try to get involved in research at your university. It looks awesome on your application, sounds awesome in an interview, and can get you an awesome Letter of Rec from a well known professor as long as you devote the time to them.

Please don't take this personal, but if you are planning on applying for the upcoming cycle, you have A LOT of work to do. We don't mean to scare you with what were saying either. It's just the unfortunate reality of it...

There is a search function for this forum, please, please use it before posting.....this forum helped me so much during the application cycle, but only works if you actually put in some legwork to find answers.

First ask yourself if this is something you really want, if yes then fully accept you will have ABSOLUTELY NO life this summer.

Retake 3-5 Courses at a CC, NAIL the GRE, Letters of Rec, another at least 2 observation settings(Think 40hr non paid work weeks here), PTCAS personal statement, decide where you are applying, and lastly budget travel costs.

Applying can be very expensive, choose carefully where you apply and figure out how much you are willing to commit to this career path. (FYI I spent between 3-5grand over the application cycle after transcripts, GRE, Books, Travel to interviews, suit, hotels, PTCAS fees, Shots, Actually even more if you include some of the extra coursework)

Again not trying to scare you and it REALLY depends where you want to go for school. Every school is so different, do they interview? Are they a 3+3 program?
