Since the CRNAs blocked our efforts to restore full payment to anesthesia attendings for supervising two residents last year, the ASA has reintroduced a bill to try and revert this unfair law. Take 5 minutes and go to the website below to express your support for this piece of legislation.

In short, when an anesthesia attending supervises two residents, he only gets reimbursed 50% for each. However, if he supervises one resident and one CRNA he gets 100% reimbursement for each. There's no doubt the AANA has a hand in this and we need to end it. That's why this bill has been reintroduced again. So do your part and use the below link to contact your senator to support this law.

Rockefeller introduces Senate Teaching Rule legislation
Ask your Senator to cosponsor S. 2056

Sen. John Rockefeller (D-WV) has introduced legislation, S. 2056, that would restore full payment to anesthesiology teaching programs. Please ask your Senators to co-sponsor this important legislation. The bill mirrors H.R. 2053, the Medicare anesthesiology teaching payment reform legislation introduced in the House by Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-CA).

Let your Senators hear your voice.

Write your Senators by clicking here for the ASA CapWiz Action Center.

Call your Senators through the Capitol Switchboard, (202) 224-3121. Ask them to help save anesthesiology teaching programs by cosponsoring S. 2056

Urge your colleagues to take action supporting Teaching Rule reform legislation!

As academic anesthesiology knows all too well, CMS slashes in half payment to teaching anesthesiologists who work with two residents on cases that overlap—even for a minute. This misguided policy, in place since 1994, affects only anesthesiology and costs programs hundreds of thousands of dollars every year—hindering efforts to recruit and retain high-caliber teaching anesthesiologists, and ultimately weakening programs.

S. 2056 would reinstate full payment to ensure the viability of anesthesiology teaching programs throughout the country.

*** Also, if you have not already asked your Representative to cosponsor H.R. 2053, please do so now! You may contact him or her through the ASA CapWiz site, or by calling the Capitol Switchboard.*** .

I hate this law and it has no basis in reality.
