Hello,

I am a junior doctor working here in the UK, and really want to do my post-graduate training in the USA in Plastic Surgery...i am really interested in craniofacial reconstructive work.

I graduated medical school from Cambridge, and Oxford...with merits
Have done placements in Neurosurgery in the states at Mayo and in Texas, but not much in terms of plastics in the states...

The only dissapointment is my Step 1 score which was not amazing...however, i am trying hard to ace my Step 2

As an IMG what are my chances of getting into a residancy training programe?
Any tips or tricks would be very helpful!!

I know FMGs who were sucessful in matching in a plastics residency after doing a 2 year research fellowhship at an institution where they would like to train. That was the only interview they received and they did get the residency position.
Its a grind but the spots are tough to get for anyone.

Hey

Well let me tell you something. Are you planning to become a Board Ceritfied and practice in the US? If, not, then things can be easier for you. There are number of non-accredited plastic surgery fellowships that will give you a good deal of clinical exposure, but you will not get credits for your Boarding.
I know people who made such a training at Johns Hopkins, UPenn, Un Mississipi. I am sure there are more places.

Don't give up.
