Unfortunately, my guidance counselor is no help! I plan on majoring in premed and my dream colleges are Columbia University and NYU. I am only a sophomore in high school so I obviously haven't applied anywhere yet but I am so confused as to how AP/college credits work! Do colleges (even Columbia) accept AP credits? Do they accept credits from college classes you took in high school? How so they chose which ones they will take? I really appreciate any answers/advice anyone has to offer! 🙂

I figure stuff out by Googling all my questions and stipulations.

And if you took a community college course in New York, it'll probably transfer (which can be found on the internet too).

If you cannot find it on the internet, the university COULD accept the credit by reviewing the course's syllabus.

To find out if they accept the AP credit, do a google search for "*insert college here* Placement Credit. Usually they'll give you a chart.

As for "Credit from college classes", I assume you mean as if you were taking them at a CC/Early College Program. It's different in many places, but from where I am, they take certain credits for certain classes. Sometimes, even if you take an AP Class for a certain subject, you'll still have to take the class when you get to College. It's weird. They may still take the credit, but not the recognition of the class.

from what I've seen, a college class is a college class whether you took it in high school or not.. And I'm sure most colleges would accept at least some AP credits, not sure about specifically NYU and Columbia though

You should retake your science and English AP's. Everything else you can just claim AP credit for to make your life (and tuition) a whole lot easier.
