Hey! I just got accepted to both, which I am really excited about, but now I have one of the hardest decisions in my life. I know there a ton of differences between the two, like 80,000 dollars (im out of state for CU), and penn has twice the class size, and ur living in philly vs denver, but what do you all think? Im sure there are plenty of factors I haven't considered.

tough decision. i really liked both those schools too. both have a whole lot to offer. when it comes down to it though, i really didn't like the sounds of living in philly...and then there's colorado whose climate i love. upenn probably has a little better name reputation...but colorado does a great job preparing its students for specialties too (if that concerns you).

where are you from? so you say you're out of state to colorado, right? not WICHE either, right? i might pick based on price...unless i was really concerned about being in a location that i enjoy...and in that case hands down colorado.

that's just my 2 cents. good luck. and nice dilemma 🙂

haha thanks! I am from florida. But CU is the one thats 80g's cheaper. I love both schools I wish money was no issue. (Im praying for the deans scholarship when my package arrives).

then i vote colorado...hands down. i recieved a dean's at upenn, but still chose against it...that area of philly is really rough and philly is just so drab in general. my current roommate went to upenn for architecture...he doesn't speak highly of philly. but again...great school. but  go buffs!

just curious, what day did you interview at CU?

im from colorado, but am going to temple. Im actually quite excited to live in philly

i'd take Penn. that being said, i'm from east coast and not keen on moving to aurora, CO. i have friend in boulder and fam in denver, but still i'd feel lonely. $80k savings is a lot and cost of living is probably cheaper out there too. they have smaller class size, but i feel like penn also might help slightly more if you want residency.

I live in CO and interviewed at UPEN. Let me tell ya that CU is in the worst area of denver/aurora, no joke. The area CU is in has the highest crime rate out of all Denver and Aurora. The UPEN area is waaaaaay nicer. I would go to PEN.

I am in the same situation,
UPENN (great name reputation)
vs.
UColorado (which is a decent a good school)

here's my take: if you're going to be paying OUT-OF-STATE for UColorado, you might as well pay extra and go to UPENN

in MY situation I'm WICHIE Qualified (whatever that means?) so if I go to UColorado it's a heck of a lot cheaper!
what would you do if you were WICHIE-Qualifed Colorado, vs. UPENN?

Being from colorado as well, I wouldnt say this is necessarily as bad as you make it sound. Yes the dental school isn't in a great area, but it isnt like you are in danger while in class. 👍

UColorado school is not in Denver, but actually in Aurora, right?
and the part of Aurora it's in, from what I've been told (rumors) is that the school is not in that good part of town, is that true?

UPENN, when I went there... the campus seemed to be nice. but the surrounding area AROUND Campus was a little... 'iffy'

So as "poopypants" says UColorado is bad, how was it really that much nice then the area at UPENN? (I mean did you go to the surrounding area around UPENN?)

Go to where Floridians Go, to UPENN!

BTW, im from FL and going to PENN 😛

I dont know were you live in Colorado but I have lived in three areas near the campus (del mar park, few blocks from colfax, and montbelo). I have had both of my cars stolen more than once, my house broken into lots, and robed at gun point 2x. So if you have lived in the area and at least one of these things has not happened to you, you are lucky, as I know many other people that this has happened to.

Sounds like you've got some really bad luck, and I am sorry to hear that these things happened to you. I'm not saying that 225 and Colfax is a country club by any means, I just don't think it is fair to classify the area as dangerous and having the highest crime rate in the entire state. Just one man's opinion though.

I liked Colorado a lot and if I get accepted would have a hard choice between it and UCLA.

This group has made me even MORE confused.
WICHIE Scholarship Colorado vs. UPENN
which would YOU pick?

I would without a doubt choose CU. Think about it 80k is a TON of money, how is going to UPenn going to justify 80k? Will UPenn give you a larger salary? Will you be 80,000 dollars happier at UPenn? Is UPenn worth paying for a Ferrari? I personally think you would be crazy to not choose CU.

I am also from Florida and also going to PENN🙂🙂

I recommend PENN all the way - I have had experience at the school and met many very happy PENN students. Colorado is an awesome school but I think PENN is just an unbelievable place to learn dentistry...

GOOD LUCK!!

That is the thing about WICHE. One will not know if they receive it until after they have made their decision which ds to attend. So it makes it hard to make a choice on a IF (I get WICHE)

Not many people know that Colorado is a great school but it was 6th on 1st boards and 7th on second boards. Ir's definitely a solid school!
