Hello all,
I have a questions about the rules of boards exams regarding medications. It says that you can only access food, drink and meds during breaks… and in another spot it says that you can access meds and food if you need to take them at a specific time.

I have a monthly, ehm, condition that requires prn meds that seems to be intending to fall right on my exam date this month (later than expected) and I take OTC pain meds for it. I can premedicate but I don’t know that it will last through the whole exam.

So question is are you supposed to have a doctors note? Is the rule about prescribed meds or all meds? I didn’t really find a distinction or anything addressing those things on either the boards or the Pearson websites.

(Yes, I should have addressed this earlier, but I think I made some assumptions about it probably being ok before)

You can access anything in your locker during scheduled breaks. Including food, medications, whatever. You can take scheduled breaks in between any blocks of questions/vignettes but you have 60 minutes total to spread over the whole day.

You cannot access anything in your locker during UNSCHEDULED breaks...so if you have to pee your pants and need to take a break in the middle of a block, you cannot get into your locker then.

It's pretty much same rules as USMLEs. As long as you have an hour of wiggle room in terms of how PRN you need to take it, I wouldn't bother even bringing it up, just bring the stuff with you and access it during scheduled break time.

Yeah, that is what I thought. I mean, anyone can develop pain at any time for any reason, and if they couldn't take an OTC pain med they'd be SOL and maybe impaired for the rest of the exam... But to ask everyone for a prescription or doctor's note for OTC prn's would be unrealistic.
