The prof who's writing my LOR hasn't submitted it yet and it's due today, based on the date I sent. What happens if they don't meet the due date?

As some background info, the last email exchange we had was Wednesday and he did say that he would get it done. I haven't submitted my application yet.

I'm freaking out a little! I still have one more space for an LOR so if worst comes I'll just find another prof somehow, I'm just not sure what happens? Does the portal close for them or is it just a date set between you and the prof? The status is also still set to "requested".

I am not sure what happens if they don't submit it by the deadline but I would extend it just to be safe. Also send a reminder email to them.

I'm pretty certain the deadline you set on the website is just so it can remind them when it's due. I also read that you can request it even after you submit your application too.

Yea I ended up extending it and emailing them, but they haven't replied... very strange since everything seemed fine last week. Thanks for the advice!

That's a relief! Yea, I guess I'll have to see if I have to end up choosing someone else after I submit my application instead if he doesn't answer the email.

Hah these profs am I right? Yea he did end up submitting, but I had to change the date for him. He didn't get back to me until a few days after the deadline had passed. It's in though so all good with me!

I haven’t completed my application fully yet , so I havent submitted it yet... for future reference, how do I know when the LOR is due? Also if I’m still working on my application and haven’t submitted yet could I just have them in already before submission date?

it's due when your application is due per each school you apply to. for example, ICO's application deadline is in feb, so all LORs should be submitted by then. When you send an LOR request to your professors, you pick a deadline for them. Since most schools are rolling admissions, the sooner the better
