in addition to its location, its focus on computer-based learning, and its ridiculously high tuition, is there anything special about tufts? i read through its website, the MSAR and other guides to medical school...i'm still struggling to write about my motivation to go to this school.

I actually didn't write anything for that part of Tufts' app. There isn't really much room, and if you read the instructions for it (its a pdf file...http://www.tufts.edu/med/admissions/2005_2ndary_app_instructions.pdf), it actually says that for "the ovewhelming majority the correct answer is no. " It goes on to say that leaving it blank is perfectly acceptable, and that you shouldn't feel the need to turn to research or creative writing.

What I took from that was that they didn't want to see 5000 apps with the same BS about location, curriculum, etc...that doesn't help them differentiate. If however, you have family, a spouse, or some other need to be in Boston, or you have some connection to Tufts, then by all means write about it...otherwise I wouldn't reach for answers. As hard as it was to leave that space blank, I just checked no and moved on.

i did the same thing. clicked no and moved on.

Yup, when they specifically ask you to cut the BS and not write stuff based on research and creative writing, I wouldn't write anything based on research and creative writing.

do you guys feel the same way with the why baylor question? I guess in the end its tough to leave things blank when you have to pay them $100 to look at your app but i guess when they specificaly say no creative writing/research its prob best not to do it...h

This is by FAR my favorite secondary. We all know that most of these essays are complete BS and one of the major reasons we apply is because they have a simple box to check on AMCAS. I love a school that actually realizes this and doesn't want any ass kissing to boost their fragile egos. Attitude-wise this school is my favorite. As far as anything else goes...well...I am not so sure yet.

Congratulations Tufts for understanding the ridiculous nature of this application process!!
