Hi, I'm in grade 10 in Toronto, Ont, Canada.
I am thinking about taking a 0-6 program right after I finish high school.
I know about the courses I'm taking, but I don't have any job experience/job shadowing yet. I really want to be a Pharmacist though, there is nothing else I would rather do.

1. I haven't found any in Ontario, are they only offered in the US? That would be a huge upset 🙁

2. How many spots are usually available? Its not competitive to get into like Pharmacy school is, is it?

3. And once I'm in the 0-6 program, (assume I do well) will I get through and become a Pharmacist?

Also, what are some of the benefits of going into the 0-6 program?

Thanks! 🙂

It's okay if you don't have any job experience or shadowing experience. It would be nice in order to gain experience, but I didn't and I got accepted to schools with 0-6 programs. 🙂

1. I'm only familiar with the 0-6 programs available in the US. I'm not sure about Canada.

2. Getting into a 0-6 school is pretty competitive. The number of spots available depends on the pharmacy school. I know URI only accept 100 students out of around 1,100 applicants who apply. But schools like MCPHS-Boston are easier to get into.

3. Yes. As long as you maintain a certain GPA, which differs depending on the school.

Benefit- Don't have to take PCAT, or reapply as long as you keep up with the required GPA.

Hope this helps! 😉

Thanks for the info, I really need any info I can get. I'm planning on working my butt off this summer, (I usually wake up late and play games all day, so I'm doing something better) and switch to higher classes (applied to academic). In grade 11 and 12 I will work hard and try to get into a University or a 0-6 program. And I'm in Toronto, Ontario and the closest program is in St. John's, and that's the only one in Canada? Haha.

haha yup, you definitely have time to beef up your transcript. And make sure you do decently on your SATs. I wish I knew more about Canadian pharmacy schools to help you. 🙁 sorry!

You've already helped me plenty, 😀 Thanks so much. I just want to find a 0-6 program before the option is off the list :/

waterloo CAP. started last yr. i personally know a kid who got in. not quite sure it'll still be around when you become gr 12. very competitive with only 24 selected last yr. this year it's still 24 or 25 seats but it's projected 300+ people will apply.

and for american 0-6 there are a lot.
toronto eh?

Canadian, EEEEHHHH? Lol

I'm pretty sure I'll have to go to Ryerson University, unless I do really well the next 2 years of high school (11, 12). Hopefully I get into University of Toronto. It doesn't really matter which University I get in, does it? They all have the courses I need to take for Pharmacy school?
Or will U of Toronto/Waterloo prepare me more for Pharmacy school?
😕

you're young so try harder to get better marks. It's possible, and you'll need it if you're looking to try the waterloo program. All the people who entered are in mid 90s for their average. Like i said it was their pilot program for 0-6. try searching on google. sometimes searching will get you further than asking.

Yeah, I think I can get in the 80's, but I don't think I'll be able to make it into U of Toronto, or even Waterloo! I might try and apply, unless it costs money, but I think I have a good shot of getting into Ryerson University.

life does not spoon feed you. faster you learn that, the better off you will be.
with mid 80 you should be able to get into u of t or loo, depending on which program. It does not matter which school you go to generally and your mark matters far more. Change your mindset and work harder because waterloo cap is pretty much guaranteed pharmacy program and there are no other programs like that in canada at the moment. Universities only look at gr 11 and 12 marks so start working hard. Work hard and excel.
and good luck.

If they looked at my grade 9 and 10 marks I might not have made it. Not that I failed, I just chose the easier level and did well. In summer school I'm planning on taking higher courses (again, I didn't fail 😛). I really want to go to U Waterloo or Toronto, but if I don't get accepted I might go to Ryerson, York, etc. Does it matter which University in Toronto I go to? Or is it just harder in Waterloo and Toronto, as I've heard it.
