Hi. I am wondering what are my chances and what I need to do. I plan on applying for Fall of 2008 so should I send in my application in September (I heard there are rolling admissions). Also I can get recommendations from MDs and PHDs but should I also get one from a Podiatrist? I've volunteered in clinical settings (i.e. ER), but I haven't volunteered in an actual podiatrist's office.

Also, here are my stats: I went to UCSD and graduated with a music degree, but I finished on the med school science requirements (bio, bio lab, chem, chem lab, o chem, ochem, physics) and while my overall gpa was 3.25, my science gpa is 2.57. Is that too low? I've taken the MCAT and got a decent score: 25R (verbal: 9, Physics: 8, bio:8). And I am currently at USC getting my MPH-Global Health with my current GPA at around 3.75. Through my masters program, I will also be a part of implementing a tobacco prevention program in China this summer.

Is this good enough? What do I need to do? and what specifically are these schools looking for (especially California School of Podiatric Medicine)?

thank you so much!

The admission department usually requires you to shadow a Podiatrist and get a letter of recommendation from that person. As far as GPA and MCAT, you appear to be a competitive applicant. If you apply early enough, you should be able to have your pick of schools. Since your GPA is now higher in the graduate program, it shows determination and improvement. DPM programs seem to look at the overall applicant more than some of the more traditional degrees. I believe you should also contact the admission departments and see exactly what they want.

Good Luck

Your greatest strength is your MCAT. MCAT is the great equalizer.
