So here's the question:

"Describe a problem in your life. Include how you dealt with it and how it influenced your growth."

So I'm wondering if this question is meant to be answered by ONE specific challenging event (e.g. adjusting to a difficult role as new manager) or an ONGOING struggle (e.g. issue with accepting others' feedback/criticism).

Personally, I would like to tackle this question by writing about a specific problem I had while working in a group setting. However, after reading the question again, I'm wondering if that would be an appropriate response.

How would you go about answering this question? Specific problem that was either a one time event (maybe lasted for weeks/months) or something that has been an issue for years?

There isn't a right or wrong answer here. Internal problems, external problems, singular events, or ongoing. As long as you can show that you can react to adversity in a positive way that allows you to mature or learn new things, then you have answered the question. Be prepared to substantiate your answer with tangible explanations. If you had difficulty adjusting to a managerial position, be able to explain what steps you took to change and the impact it had. If you speak of your issues with accepting criticism, be able to effectively show how you are combating it and what you've learned along the way. Choose an experience that provides the best representation of your ability to learn and grow as a person.

DO NOT touch the accepting feedback/criticism thing

that can land you on the reject pile

you need to be careful when addressing faults
