Hi, I am a freshman in college right now. I am looking into pre-med, but I have no idea how I should be planning my future courses for the best help possible in mcats. I spoke to several different counselors/seniors with major in Biology, and a lot of them told me to take different routes. I was just looking for someone else's advice for when to take mcats (fall junior? spring sophomore?) and basically a flowchart for the major Biology. Also any other helpful courses that isn't necessary to the overall major, but beneficial to mcats.

IDK if it matters and if the courses required to graduate with a BS in Bio vary from university to university but to make things easier, I go to LSU

For a bio major: Bio I/II, Gen Chem I/II, two electives per term (finish calc/stats) for freshman year
OChem I/II, Anatomy and Physiology I/II, Two Electives per term for sophomore year
Physics, Two Major electives, two electives per term junior year
Finish major requirements, unassigned electives senior year
MCAT is end of Junior year.

My counselor for some unknown reason did not get me Bio I my fall/freshman year, is that fine that I am one semester behind? Or should I cram as much as possible into spring freshman year so I can make up for it. Heres how it is for me this semester:

summer class freshman year: Engl 1/elective towards graduating
fall class freshman year: Calc 1/Chem1/2 electives towards graduating

On the right track or not?

It's not the best situation take bio I next semester then and bio II over the summer so you can start taking major electives earlier as this is often a pre-req.

Thanks for the help, if anyone else has any comments, please feel free to chime in.

This might do better in the Pre-Allo Forum... where ever is a mod when you need one?

Oh, I thought this was kind of a noobie question so I posted it in here. Well then if a mod could please move this over to that section?

Most advisory offices will have the flowchart that you request, detailing the ideal way to schedule your classes for your major.

They don't have a flow chart with it. If they did, I would not be in this situation that I am in right now. The most they gave me was a degree audit, and basically told me take all of these classes and you'll have a degree in
Bio. Hell, they even made my schedule this summer/fall freshman year which is why I am stuck trying to make up Bio2 during the summer. Never really gave me any great advice

I didn't take 1 bio class until fall of my sophomore year and got a 14 on the bio section.

It doesn't really matter when you take it as long as you take it.

Just make sure you have all prerecs done by the end of the junior year to take the MCATs.

It is a long process make sure you don't burn yourself out by over planning it now.
