I took the DAT in Sept and my AA was 14..I am taking it again in Dec..I need help with strategies for the next one..I want to start studying as soon as possible..Any suggestions or breakdown of how I can study each week pls..

What did you use last time? I haven't take my DAT yet, but I think studying for it in this order. QR, PAT, RC, GC, OC, then BIO. You want to leave bio at the end because you don't want to forget what you learn. Hope that helps.

Bad idea. Bio makes up 40 out of 100 questions in the Natural Sciences. You can't afford to leave it until the end. IMO, you're better off rotating the subjects. Like Bio & GC one day, then OC and QR the next, etc.

To the OP: you're going have to give us more info. What's your GPA? How did you study last time & what did you use? Obviously if your AA was 14, something drastic has to change.

Look do anything you didn't do for the first one , add on to your study hours I studied 8-10 hours per day 7 days a week for 10 weeks. I did achiever, Kaplan, destroyer and Top score, I studied them all 3-4 time each. My scores AA/TS/PAT 20/21/22. My first DAT I got 20/20/20 so I did improve some what.

Did you take it twice even with your 20/20/20?!
makes me jealous! 😀

It gets considerably tougher to improve your score once you are in the 20s. I am glad that you are still able to do it. Good job!

I recommend a course, as thorough as you can get depending on whether of not a test prep center is in your area. I worked on my own the first year I took it and got 19/19/19, whereas this year I did kaplan tutoring/classroom and got my scores up to 22/22/24, so I was found it to be well worth the money, but everyone's results will certainly vary. I also did my course in the summer, when I had alot of time to devote to it, so I imagine I wouldn't have gotten as much out of it if I was taking a full course load at the same time.

good luck,
Will

yes, I retook it because I didn't get in Last year :-(

Geez. A 20/20 got you no acceptance? That was seriously a wtf moment.

Back to the OP: sorry for the hijack, but I agree on above that you should probably break down a day into different subjects. That way, you would also be able to concentrate better since you are not just focusing on one single thing for the whole day.

Yeah, but your first scores were 19/19 with "minimal" studying...that is a far cry from a 14 aa.

If the op has a ts lower than 16 that means there is a serious serious lack of science fundamentals. I emphasize the ts b/c that is the area where improvement is most probable due to the tractable nature of science subjects.

I think private one on one tutoring can benefit the op, but I have tutored chemistry (general and organic) in the past, and I do have experience in tutoring people who have very very poor fundamentals and it takes A LOT of work. Any session less than 2 hours is a complete waste of time. Ideally, it would take about 6-8 hours a week of private tutoring...

I know that kaplan charges an arm and a leg for that kind of tutoring. If money is an issue...there are many individuals with phds that tutor on the side and the rate is usually better than kaplan.

Now, I don't think kaplan is all that bad...especially if you don't know what you're doing, but just to be safe, I would ask around and find out about the quality of kaplan in your area. Kaplan is huge and as such...quality can vary.

Totally agree with you about putting bio off till the end. There is a good chance your confidence will crumble b/c the amount of bio to be learned is very very overwhelming...

wow, i m in the same boat...took it in sept, retake in dec, and got a 14 AA...but my problem was not enough studying...

my question is-- it is not too late for 2008 cycle right, if i take my test end of december? cuz if i have very little chance then i rather delay the test and application to 2009 cycle. ??????????????????????

It depends on which schools you have applied to and how much more prepared you feel. keep in mind that some schools have deadlines in Nov. so you might have to watch out for that.

Personally, I feel that taking the DAT in Sep. may put you in a pretty disadvantaged position. To stand a legitimate chance for the 2008 cycle, you probably want to shoot for something like a 23+...

I am planning to retake the Dat in December as well.

I have been studying for about 5 hours a day for the past month and hope to study 8 to 10 hours in Nov and December
I take turns studying 3 different subjects each day.
And I have bought the Destroyer which has helped tremendously with GC and OC
I use Kaplan and destroyer for math
I am using AP Cliffs Bio and Destroyer for Bio
Topscore and Achiever

Hope that Helps and good luck to you.

spaces in school'll be close to full before you even take your dat. it's not the best investment to apply this cycle. consider pushing teh test back more and get more effective studying in.
