Hi, iam a biology major who plans to apply to dental schools next june. i have a GPA of 3.87 so far and I started my shadowing hours lately but iam wondering about The DAT scores because i can't tell what are the scores most dental schools are looking for. Thanks for help

You can go to Pre-dents and sort the schools list by DAT scores.

Generally speaking, students with 3.5 overall and science GPA (or higher of course) topped with an AA 19 are considered competitive.

I agree with bieberblast. A 19 might be competitive, but with your GPA and a 20, you'll likely have several acceptances as long as you interview well.

When you think about it, the difference between a 3.5/19 vs 3.6/20 ISN'T alot to make a difference.

If you got the right stats (for example, 3.5s with 19s across the board) and you applied to a good number of schools, and you didn't get a enough interviews, chances are, its not your numbers..... there is something else.

On the other hand, if you got the right numbers, did land a good number of interviews, but never got accepted, again, its not your numbers, there is something else thats making them shy away from accepting you.

Of course this goes without saying, there is no set-in-stone rules for gaining admissions. Most of us around SDN like to give advice thats mostly based on either personal experiences, or statistics. Looking over the statistics of most dental schools in the US, you'll see that a 3.5 GPA with a 19AA or higher are good enough numbers to get you in.... or at least they are good enough for them to interview you.

I have a friend that is a biology major who's gpa is identical to yours. He got several acceptances this year with a 19 AA. If you have taken a rigorous biology course load, attend a decent school, have some nice extra curriculars and service work, write a quality personal statement, and interview well, you should have a good shot if your score is somewhere around that. I got interviews and acceptances and my GPA is a 3.0, DAT 18. Its also about your personal statement, dental expereinces, and overall well roundeness. I know people whose scores were much higher than mine but lacked a life. Dental Schools wanna see that you can handle the course work and not be a bore at the same time.

First of all congrants to you, but do you mean shadowing/volunteer hours by saying dental experience.
