Like most, I'm reaching peak anxiety about my school list.
Non-Trad URM Reapplicant
Why a reapplicant?
Simply stated: Applied late, only MD, and not broadly enough.
I did receive one II and am still on the waitlist for that school but preparing for the worst.
Year: 2012 Grad
Major: Biochemistry
State: FL
cGPA: 3.51 sGPA: 3.54 MCAT: 29 (9 BS, 10 VR, 10 PS), registered for 7/18 MCAT
Research: 3 years in Biochemistry Lab (>2000 hrs), grant recipient, 2 poster presentations, 1 pub. Urology clinical research trials (150 hrs).
Volunteering (Clinical): None
Shadowing: Plastics MD (50 hrs), ENT OR shadowing MD (50 hrs), Urology office + OR MD (100 hrs), Pediatric ER MD (40 hrs), no DO shadowing yet.
Non-Clinical Volunteering: Community service project in ATL (40 hrs), fraternity volunteer hours (100 hrs), homeless outreach program (50 hrs).
Extracurricular activities: fraternity (w/leadership positions), intramural sports.
Employment History: Outpatient surgery center assistant (1 yr), tutoring (800 hrs over ~4yrs), ENT practice assistant (1 yr), Urology practice assistant (6 mo) catering company (100 hrs total).
Immediate family in medicine: No immediate, but 1 MD Uncle & 1 DO Uncle.
MD Schools: (long list, need to trim down) Albany, Rosalind Franklin, Creighton, Drexel, Eastern VA, FAU, FIU, FSU, Quinnipiac, George Washington, Loyola, MC of Wisc, MUSC, NYMC, Oakland, Penn St, Rush, Thomas Jefferson, Temple, Tulane, USF, Univ of AZ (both), UCF, Univ of Iowa, Mizzou-Columbia, Pitt, USCarolina (both), UVM, VCU, Wake, WVU, Wright St.
