Hey, everyone.

I am a 21 year old junior at the University of Richmond. I am a double major in Latin and Chemistry. I have a 3.4 GPA and and 3.4 science GPA. I am projecting that I will get a 20 or 21 on the DAT, based on the practice tests I am taking. I have a Chemistry article published in a decent journal and I have done 2 years and a summer of research here at school with a chemist who just finished her PhD and postdoc at Harvard. I am the vice-president of my fraternity, and I am on the board of my American Chemical Society Student Affiliates chapter. I play on the club tennis team, and I play IM basketball. I am shadowing a dentist for about 70 hours this summer, and an orthodontist for about 30 additional hours. I speak Spanish well, but not fluently. I think that I am personable and will do well in an interview.

In short I would like to go to dental school in my hometown of Boston entering the class of 2016. I know Harvard would take some divine miracle for me to get in, but I am very interested in Tufts and BU. Could anybody evaluate my chances at these schools?

Thanks

They are pretty good, now go take the DAT and do as well as you think you will...oh, and people posting on these threads can't very predict your chances well at all, a lot goes into an acceptance.

3.4 sGPA and overall along with (say) 20 or 21 on DATs = you are competitive

Having just read the spirited thread on whether prestigious undergraduate institutions matter, I'm curious why you mentioned the fact that your postdoc studied at Harvard?

You should have no problem getting interviews to several schools when you apply, but don't hold out on those two schools. I applied to those two school this cycle and I haven't heard anything from them yet. My AADSAS status is still "under review" and hasn't changed since september. I have above average stats with have multiple Dec 1st acceptances, but I also completed my application in mid August. I feel BU and Tuffs get so many applications, if you don't apply very very early you will significantly reduce your chances of getting in even with stellar stats.
good luck

I was trying to say that the professor I do work with here at a primarily undergraduate institution is doing interesting research that gets published. Her having gone to Harvard for a PhD actually does matter in her field (organic Chemistry). Perhaps a little bit pretentious, but whatever.

Good to know. Our pre-health advisor is a strong advocate of applying early. I'm hoping to apply as soon as I take the DATs. Hopefully I'll do as well as I've predicted, I guess time will tell!

If you do as well as you're hoping on the DAT, you should have no problem getting interviews from Tufts or BU. Good luck.
