I just received an interview invite from Dartmouth for 10/28/04!!! But now it seems like getting there from Cali will take 7 hours of flying and a 2 hour road trip and more $ than I can afford to spend after those secondaries... Does anybody have any travel advice? Like which is the best airport to fly into, and what's the most economical way to get there???

Look into to Southwest- I think they have flights from Oakland to Manchester, NH. They are usually *much* cheaper than flights into Logan. However, I don't know about getting from Manchester to Hanover/Lebanon. Perhaps you could call Dartmouth to see if there is a shuttle from there as well. I would venture to say yes as the Manchester route is becoming more and more popular among the NE folks. Congratulations!

Hey Erin!

I just had an idea that might help. One of my best friends was born and raised in NH and recently moved back there. I just sent her an email about the situation, so hopefully I'll hear from her soon.

I'll email or call you when I hear from her, but I'll also be sure to post her suggestions here so that others can benefit. 🙂

im from the grand ol' state of NH and id reccomend the manchester route - its a great airport, pretty cheap to fly into, and avoids the hassles of boston [construction makes it kind of a night mare depending on when you fly in] - from manchester, its about an hr and a half drive to the school, so maybe rent a car? its a nice, senic drive so its usually traffic free.... just my 2 cents! good luck!

Hey- I was a Dartmouth undergrad- you CAN fly into Manchester via Southwest Airlines, and the Dartmouth Coach stops there as well. The bus ride is about 1.5ish hours from there.

Thank you everybody for the helpful information and for anybody that wants to know, there is a bus (thru Vermont Transit, 1-800-552-8737) that leaves Manchester airport and stops in Hanover, RT is $39.00.

From someone who's from this area of the country (4 years of undergrad in boston and numerous trips home to Northern New York through NH/VT), you really have two options...

Fly Southwest into Manchester, NH and rent a car from there (a lot easier, could be pricey to rent a car)
- or -
Fly another carrier into Logan and take a bus/subway to south station and take greyhound up to Dartmouth (the bus toward Burlington stops in Dartmouth) - or rent a car in boston and drive up. And seriously, flying into logan really isn't that bad anymore, most of the construction is now done (or at least enough to get to the major places) Best of luck. PM me if you need any more questions. 🙂

If you have a student ID you could get a discount on Vermont Transit.

Southwest to Manchester and then taking Vermont Transit is definitely the best way to get to Dartmouth (unless you want to rent a car which will cost you ~$35/day) . I've done it several times. They drop you right on campus. Good Luck!

Going to Dartmouth was a pain in the rear. If you can, fly into Manchester and rent a car from there (about $25/day) or take the Dartmouth shuttle. I flew into Logan (it was part of a multi stop flight so I really had no choice in the matter). It took me about an hour to get my car from the rental car company (car rental places are all off-airport), the car was about $60/day, and the lines at Logan are very long. Traffic is terrible during rush hour and all the toll booths are a ha$$le as well. The shuttle from Logan was ~$55 and it took about 3 hours to get there (from what the other interviewees said).

I Live in Manchester, and definately recommend using Manchester airport over Logan. You can take a bus from the airport to Dartmouth. Very easy.
Good Luck!

When interviewing last year, used the Manchester airport, which was nice quick and hardly any lines. Big recommendation.
