OK, I am a high school senior currently, and I am trying to figure out what to do with my life. I have been very interested in pharmacy and I would really like to eventually become one.

I live in Orange Park, Florida and I have decided to go for college to FCCJ(Florida Community College of Jacksonville) for two years for my AA degree. Then transfer down to Orlando and attend UCF for my undergrad degree their. From there I had thought to enroll in UF's Pharmacy program, and apply for their satellite branch in Orlando so I could stay with my friends and not have to go to Gainsville. Also I had the thought of going for a dual degree in law and get a pharmd/jd.

How solid of a plan is this?

How easy is it to get into the UF pharmacy program(satellite school in orlando)?

How hard is it trying to do the dual degree program? Is it worth it?

Also how is the pay for recently graduated pharmacist(with just the pharmd). Versus the person with the dual degree.

Do I understand it correctly that it would be 6 years for the dual degree.

In total this would mean I would be in school for possibly 8-10 more years?! How can I pay for all this?

I would really appreciate all the help you could give me.

Oh, and when you post could you post where you are employed as a Pharmacist and how much you make and how long you've been a Pharmacist.

thanks.

with the BS you're looking at 4 years...
with the pharm D you're looking at 4 years
with the Jd you're looking at 3 years

the dual degree may decrease it by like a year but you will be killing yourself

good luck

From what I've seen you'll not make more as a PharmD/JD out of the gates going into law as opposed to doing pharmacy. Most fresh-from-the-farm JDs don't get money until 5 or 6 years out of school AND able enough to advance. At that time they generally transfer from Jr. Associates to Associates in the legal food chain, which means they gopher to a higher level of people. And if you go corporate route, most companies look for 5 to 7 years of experience (in field) prior to making them in-house attorneys.

Without a doubt JD/PharmD has a higher earning potential, if you like the life of a law firm. I doubt that a corporate lawyer could make more then a retail pharmacist, unless you are very, very good at litigation. And then you'll likely to be in a law firm and not in a corporate law group.

In the end, what are you looking to do? If you aren't looking to go into the lobby industry or law as a field, then the JD won't get you much except two extra letters at the end of your name. And you can always go back to get the JD later, many schools offer a night-time program.
