Help With Labs!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hi all,
okay. i'll give you a quick rundown of my situation. graduated in 2001 w/ a major in neuroscience + behavior. it sounds fancy but it really wasn't that much - gchem, 5 courses in bio, 5 courses in psych. no labs required!, and at my school the labs were separate from the lectures.
since '01 i was in the peace corps, travelled, bar-tended, and now i'm working in public health research. i'm finishing up the o-chem requirement (including lab) right now.
so basically, i am applying having not yet taken bio lab OR physics lab.
i don't think the schools will care that much that i haven't taken the labs yet, as long as i get them done by may. but, they are so FREAKING EXPENSIVE at my alma matter (~$1000/credit x 6 credits = $6000).
so anyone have any suggestions????

...then take the labs at a cheaper university? Obviously its easier in terms of transcripts and the specific class if you take it at your alma mater.

2 things to consider:
1) Med school is not cheap; $6k in loans won't make much difference in the long run.
2) If your GPA/MCAT are good, then you probably won't be given any hassle taking the classes at a MUCH cheaper CC. However, any 4-year accredited school will be best.

I have a different problem. I have credit for a Physics 2 lecture but not the lab. Does anyone know of an affordable college in NY or NJ where I can take JUST physics 2 lab, not lecture? Also, does anyone know of a school ANYWHERE (preferably NY, NJ, Chicago, or Los Angeles) that teaches Orgo 2 Lab for WINTER SESSION?

Thanks!

This is a topic i've tried but could nor find precise answers for. The MSAR states specific requirements for prereqs as "one year of biology with lab" for example. At my school separate labs are offered for each semester of general science coursework. So would the minimum interpretation be...2 lectures and one of the labs?
I know most people would just fire out the automatic just "take the damn labs!" answer but going to school full time and working full time and being older generates the effect of looking for the straightest line between two points. Plus if your taking a whole bunch of other science courses I wonder if adcomms would hammer you on these types of details the way premeds would have you think. I've heard anecdotal evidence of adcomm's flexibility in this regard. Perhaps someone who has tested this policy could comment?

Hey there,
I know that when I took some online classes, the lab portion was offered separately (b/c it needed to be done in classroom). So, you might try looking for schools that offer online courses and see if you can take just the lab. Community colleges are doing a lot of online stuff lately. Don't know of specific courses/terms/schools in your area(s).
good luck!

You will have to contact the individual school directly for that information.
