GOOD NEWS I just received an offer for a sales&marketing internship in a local city, which is a huge feat for me because as a biology major I thought my options were extremely limited. It seems like a great opportunity for me to continue improving my professional communication skills and to become more sociable in a friendly business setting.

But the bad news is that the week long training program will interfere with a LOT of my finals - at least three. I'm quite sure (but not 100% positive) that all of these deadlines would be pushed forward to 7-10 days earlier, making that week extremely hellish, which isn't good because in four of my classes I'm on the fence between a B/B+ or an A-/A, and I'm worried the decreased time will hurt me greatly in my studies. I also can't afford too many more dents in my GPA at this point, since I didn't do too well last semester after taking CS courses.

The alternatives are, currently, to take on a research position in anesthesiology with a professor whose projects seem to have a high chance of becoming published and presented if I continue throughout the academic year. The problem is that he seems very busy as an MD/PhD and might not have too much time for me. In addition there is a part-time, unpaid internship that can be done from home, allowing me to also take additional summer classes to help improve my low-by-SDN-standards sGPA. But it doesn't seem like a great opportunity for career prospects and for improving my own personal skills.

And of course, I can continue job hunting. If I take the research position the professor had said he was totally fine with me dropping for something else because he understands that other commitments may come.

Suggestions?

This is a good opportunity, it would prove to be good experience and it would show something that is outside of the usual pre-med extracurricular.

To be honest, you don't want to ruin your GPA as it should always be priority. Can you allocate some hours from your free time in order to study for those courses and final exams?

This is a very tough position to be in, you've got a job offer on the table but you've also got academics to worry about. I would ask myself if the job is really that important that I have to risk a lower GPA for it. Of course, if you decline the job and still end up with a lower GPA, that would be unfortunate too. Me personally, I would decline the job and try to finish the semester strong. In addition, I would try to work with the professor in research and try to get published. Summer classes and the unpaid internship sound good as well, just see how you finish the semester, if you need the summer classes to improve your gpa go for it.
