Hello,
My most recent MCAT score came back and I was wondering if anyone could help me come up with an OOS list based on my stats and also let me know of my chances for TX schools (Application transmitted 06/21; last MCAT score came out 08/07 and scores received by TMDSAS/AMCAS/AACOMAS on 08/08). I really want to attend UT Houston (McGovern), but I know my MCAT is below their accepted average (I'm kind of hoping my GPA will make up for it and they might give me a chance for an interview?).
  1. TX Resident
  2. 4.00 GPA
  3. MCAT 508 (126, 127, 127, 128); 503 (2nd); 505 (1st)
  4. Major: Biochemistry
  5. Clinical/Non-clinical experience: ~170 hours of hospital volunteering; 100 hours of nursing home volunteering; ~150 hours of various community volunteering
  6. Research: Summer research program (~420 hours); Pending publication
  7. Shadowing experience and specialties represented: ~220
  8. Other extracurricular activities: active member of 2 orgs on campus; officer of an org for 2 years
Thanks in advance!

You should receive several interviews from your Texas schools. They like high GPA's.
Thank you for your reassurance. I still have the school list you gave me from a few months ago. Do you think there are other OOS schools that I might have a chance at because of my new MCAT scores?

The same list still applies with your new score. Many schools will average your scores.

Forget about OOS MD schools. You're fine for DO, though.
Thanks for the reply. Are you saying that my chances for OOS MD schools are low and should just apply to OOS DO schools instead?
