Hi! I am writing this post in behalf of a vet that does not speak very good English. He is preparing his a thesis about the following according to a text message he sent me:

Anatomy of paw region in dogs as basic eradication fifth digital phalanxes claws.

Can someone please provide some good references or diagrams or anything that can help him with his research? Thank you all very much.

The vet and I of course really appreciate the kindness of people taking the time to provide help. Thank you all so much for this great site.

you are right. i am not asking to have someone write his work for him at all. i am just hoping some one will point us to useful reference material or recommend certain books on the subject. i will then research them for him if i can.

i do speak English but i am not a vet. i am a software developer and the vet treats the 30+ cats in the shelter i partly operate. he is studying to get some advanced degree in his field.

regards.

Try any dissection guide. I would go on Amazon and look around.

Good luck.

a google or amazon search: "dog digital phalynx claw' would be a good start. assuming you thought of that as a computer person. Then, Millers or Evans anatomy guides. I am sure there is more specialized stuff around, but not sure with that statement what it is. I would assume as vet he has had anatomy, though, so not sure how that would help.

Hi bishradi,

Well dude, I want to help your friend regarding vet material but I am also new to this field. I will provide some information regarding these topics which him clear idea and helps in his thesis. The paw is characterised by thin, pigmented, keratinised, hairless epidermis covering subcutaneous, collagenous, and adipose tissue, which make up the pads. These pads act as a cushion for the load-bearing limbs of the animal. The paw consists of the large, heart-shaped metacarpal pad (forelimb) or metatarsal pad (rear limb), and generally four load bearing digital pads, although there can be five or six toes in the case of bears and the Giant Panda. A carpal pad is also found on the forelimb which is used for additional traction when stopping or descending a slope in digitigrade species. Additional dew claws can also be present. The paw also includes a horny, beak shaped claw on each digit. Though usually hairless, certain animals do have fur on the soles of their paws. An example being the Red Panda, whose furry soles help insulate them in their snowy habitat.

Thanks

Thank you very much for your input. I hope there some one who can point us to some resources such as illustrations of dog's paw anatomy including blood vessels and nerves.

Regards.

Seriously, people HAVE pointed you in the right directions. Miller's anatomy of the dog has probably the most detailed pictures of paws you will be likely to find, with the blood vessels and nerves and stuff. But if your friend is writing a thesis on paw anatomy, I question why he doesn't know about all these references he would have used in undergrad? It sounds more like your asking about basic paw anatomy, and you wont be writing a thesis out of that. And if he is writing a thesis, asking veterinary STUDENTS about paw anatomy isn't going to get him anything which isnt already documented in a textbook in 10x more detail.

Rant over. Seriously, for detail you will never need in the real world, you can't go past millers. But if he is polling veterinary students for potential resources FOR A THESIS is a ridiculous idea.

i am not sure why you are so upset. i am already on the book thing. i am just not in the USA and it takes forever to get it. he is an experienced vet by the way. i was there while her performed countless surgeries. i am not sure what the polling thing you mentioned is about.
