Hi everyone,

Long time reader, first time poster in this forum. So...I'm working through prerequs, but also working to take them around my schedule and my husband's and our three kids' (we are both professors; 2/3 kids are in school but the third is only 10m old). It's a tough juggle, which leads to my question: does it matter how many schools I take the prerequs at? We have two universities and one tech college that offer the courses I need. Obviously the tech college is the least expensive. It has several of the courses I need with a better schedule so I won't have to wait a semester to take them since they will fit around our schedules. The other two universities do not have classes I can take this summer around my teaching schedule. Take the ones at Tech or wait for Fall? I'm getting antsy to finish them up already and would like to not take the summer off if possible.

Thanks for your help.

I don’t know much about tech schools, but so long as it’s accredited and the classes offered will satisfy your prerequisites, go for it. Before you dive in, I would confirm the classes offered are “for science majors” and even double check with a few med schools / research too. The last thing you want is to take the courses only to find out they won’t be accepted.

It wouldn’t hurt to take some of your upper level science courses at the university. Ones that immediately come to mind are organic chemistry and biochemistry. You’re a year away from taking those assuming you still need 2 semesters of general biology and 2 semesters of general chemistry.

Best of luck to you.

Thank you! I actually did this very thing--contacted the schools--this morning and was pleased to discover the school I'm hoping for is fine with this as long as the schools are accredited. I've taken the year of gen bio and half of the year of gen chemistry. I am hoping to take some summer classes but won't take chemistry in a 4-5 week course. I did that with my first chemistry and it was a stressful five weeks for everyone in the class. But I can take A&P I and II this summer in back-to-back sessions.
