At this point, I'm sure of my top two choices but having trouble ranking the rest of the programs (see below). How would you guys rank these? And what are your impressions of these programs?

Johns Hopkins
NYU
UPitt
UChicago
UWash
Cornell
Cleveland Clinic
Jefferson
Dartmouth
St. Luke's
UMaryland
Tufts
Albert Einstein/Montefiore

Thanks! Good luck - the end is almost in sight! 👍👍

Great list! You'll be fine at the vast majority of the programs you have listed, so I encourage you to go with what you feel will make you happiest.

I am profoundly biased, as I'm a very happy resident at University of Pittsburgh. I think our training and the commitment to education is extraordinary, and the city is fantastic. Let me know if you have any questions about the Pitt program, and I'll do my best to answer them.

Good luck, and again, congrats on a great list. Your ranking "problem" is a great problem to have!

Thanks DC!

I also thought UPMC was a great place - large volume, happy residents, very nice facilities, and all around strong. The only downside is that it's in Pittsburgh, which is far away from family. I'm leaning toward NYC but am wondering if it's a bad move to rank NYU above other great programs like UPitt and UWash. Four years go by pretty quickly and I don't want to regret having the opportunity to train at a good place just for geographic reasons.

What do you think about NYU?

I went to medical school in New York, on Long Island, but I'm a central New York guy. I was pretty sure I wasn't going to do residency in NYC. I did look at NYU, however.

I liked it a lot. I (obviously) have no inside info on the place, but the presentation made it look like you would be well trained by the time you become an attending. The TRACC resident thing as a CA3 - a role that was billed to develop autonomy and independence - seems like a great experience. I think they do all the big transplants. Big residency class, if you're into that.

As far as other NYC on your list, I have medical school friends that are happy at Cornell and SLR.

If distance is a big issue regarding Pitt, the city cannot be moved, and I think that being close to those important to you is a real important factor. If "it's Pittsburgh" is a reason to rank us low, I urge you to ask questions, or come visit, to form your own opinion on the city. It's really a great place to be.
