help with return policy

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,
A lot of stores have return policies and I was wondering where they get these policies. Do they pull it out of their ass or is there an organization that they have to follow?

I recently got sued for selling a pair of glasses. The person used his credit card and bought the pair of glasses and he took it home. He decided that it was too expensive and that he did not like so he just dropped it off. I called him after and he said that he didn't like it and that's all he said. I told him to pick it back up but he didn't. A week later, I got a letter saying that he is suing me for the amount of his pair of glasses that he returned. His credit card declined his refund and now he is sueing me for that amount. I guess he regrets buying it. His glasses have custom lenses so it is special order and I believe that those can't be refunded. Does anyone know who sets these policies such as a government organization?

Thanks for helping me out.

typeass,
im not sure if i can help you but i just wanna tell you about my mom and her business.
she ownes a home design show and at the cashier she put a sign that says 'ALL SALES ARE FINAL, NO RETURNS OR EXCHANGES' ...
but actually what happens is that customers still come to her with whining and she tells them that she can give them 'store credit'.
im not sure if you own your own business but you need to let customers know of your policy before they purchace anything.
---you want to offer your customer a store credit and see if that flys. it is not fair that this customer want their money back, you spend time and effort selling and making the glasses for them.....but! life isnt always fair. be clear with your store policy and you wont have trouble like this again.

Thanks for the responses.

Does anyone know the law that says customized items cannot be returned?
