I'm trying to figure out how you tell what size a rotary file is. I know there are different systems, and I don't remember the name of ours, but every file has a yellow band followed by a different assortment of black bands. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think you are talking about Profiles. But I guess alot of rotary file systems have this description, posting a picture can help

They should have a colored band on them representing tip diameter. Then there should be some black bands for every 0.02 taper (i.e. 3 black bands = 0.06 taper).

The colored bands should follow the usual order that you'd see in k-files. At least the ones we use do that.

Sounds like you're using ProFile GT's if the shank is gold. Yellow is a size 20 (.20 mm) tip size. For taper, multiply the amount of black lines by 2. As another poster said, for this system the colors are the same as your k-files for tip size (red=25, blue=30, etc.). If the shank is silver, you may be using standard ProFiles or GTX's. Colors and black lines are the recipes for the sizing of several brands of rotary files.

Sounds like Profile GT .06/#20 (.06 taper #20 tip.)
