Help With School List (3.95/518)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You seem to have solid stats (get your volunteering and shadowing to the significant range). You might as well apply to a good mix of top schools (5-7 top 10, 5 of the 10-20, 5 safety schools). Also use the PhD program rankings to help shape your decision as well. Your MCAT could be higher but it's within the average range for many MD/PhD programs so I wouldn't really fret about that.

Your MCAT is not on the low side... I scored 2 points higher than you (a negligible difference) with similar GPA, and it definitely did not matter that I wasn't one of those 40+ scorers. I truly believe that once you hit the average number other factors (research, leadership, clinical work, uniqueness, etc.) matter more.

Oh wow ok that makes me feel a better! I do have other involvement (I'm led a 2 day workshop for high school kids interested in STEM fields, volunteered at a childcare center for 2 years, etc.) Thanks!

I agree. The MCAT might become even less important, once you hit the cut-off for the school, because it is not longer reported in the MSTP grant tables. Only the average GPA for the class is reported in the new T32 tables.

I was wondering if this might be the case since your larger post on the subject. Have you seen any evidence of that in your newest class for this year?
