First time posting here, so please let me know if I made any mistake (or violate any rules).
I am a Wisconsin resident, and graduated from college in May 2015 with a BA in Molecular Biology, minor in Computer Science, and a certificate in Neuroscience. I applied this year, but so far no luck (expected because my school list was unrealistic and I applied all for MD/PhD program)... Here's my stats:
Undergraduate cGPA and sGPA: 3.88 and 3.94
MCAT (including breakdown and re-takes): 27 10/6/11 (2014); 512 130/126/128/128 (6/2/2016)
Research (including abstracts, publications, conferences, etc. Include # of positions and hours): total three research positions; two was full time and one was part time; accumulated 4000 hours.
Peer review paper publications:1 co-author, 1 first author (didn't get published until this year), and one as a collaborator. Also completed and published a research thesis.
Clinical experience: volunteer at a hospital (300 hours total) and at a clinic 350 hours; shadowing (50 hours)
Non-clinical experience: administrative assistant (800 hours); learning assistant (300 hours); teaching assistant (320 hours); homeless shelter (60 hours); nursing home (120 hours).
Other ECs: hospitalist scholar (60 years); violinist; digital illustrator; leadership position in clinic; clubs involvement during undergraduate.
Date primary was submitted. 6/25
Date secondaries were completed and letters sent (rough timeline): mid-August.
First school list: All applied to MD/PhD program (total 11 schools). My advisor told me geographic location and climate are important considerations when choosing med schools, but I think this narrowed down too much.
Three interviews: U of Rochester, U of Wisconsin, Northwestern.
Two waitlisted: U of Rochester, U of Wisconsin.
post-II rejection: Northwestern.
Rejected pre-II: Stanford, Yale, UCSF, Oregon Health and Science, U of Colorado, Vanderbilt, U of Michigan, U of Washington.
Just in case I didn't get in, I wanted to start preparing this coming up application season.
New Schools list:
I'm still deciding between applying solely MD program vs. MD/PhD program because I realized my MCAT score was low for MD/PhD program. Also, I'm not confident in improving my MCAT score (haven't studied again since June 2016). I know I will need to decide between MD vs. MD/PhD myself, but I'm curious how different the school list would be if I apply for MD vs. MD/PhD (would the range of LizzyM score be very different?)...
I'm also not sure how these schools view re-applicants. I think I will apply again to most of the schools on my first list except Stanford and Vanderbilt, but add on a lot more schools. Would these schools also view me negatively if they saw my application switched from MD/PhD program (2016) to MD program (2017?).
In addition, I'm interested in applying internationally this time. Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated!
