Hey all. So I originally started at a T-20 school, but due to deteriorating mental health after about 2.5 years there I took a semester off and then transferred to my local state college. My GPA at the previous school was around a 3.13, and my GPA for all of my classes at the new one is a 3.85. Was able to drag my gpa up to a 3.43 cumulative with lots of upper level sciences, took around 90 credits at my old school and 60 at my new one. Been volunteering at the local hospital ED since coming home and worked as an EMT part time while at the last school. In the process of getting an ED-tech job. Applying next cycle (so in June) for MD and DO. Fortunate to have the financial means to cast a wide net (I realize some schools on the list are pretty big reaches like BU). Thanks in advance for your help

GPA: 3.43c/3.49s
MCAT: 512 (fairly even split, first try)
Volunteering: 500+ hours at local hospital, 80 hours non clinical in misc things
Shadowing: 50-60 hours when I apply
Clinical work: 300+ hours part time as an EMT, will be working full time as an ED tech hopefully soon through the foreseeable future (36 hours per week)
Leadership: Misc minor positions in clubs at my previous school
Research: Minimal, only about a semester's worth for a senior research project with a faculty advisor for graduation and a summer working in the same professors lab

You should receive some interviews. UCLA, UVA, Virginia Tech, Stony Brook, SUNY Downstate, Oregon, Maryland and the Arizona schools accept very few non residents with your GPA and no connection to the state or region. You could add these DO schools:
VCOM (all schools)
CUSOM
PCOM
MU-COM
AZCOM
DMU-COM

Thanks! What counts as connection to region? I have a large amount of family on Long Island, as well as a family member that is faculty at the UVA medical college
