You have a mixed message: maybe interested in primary care but definitely interested in rural health? I guess I need to see the common reasoning with all of your activities or background on this. To that end, I think your MCAT is good enough for many schools that really have a mission of community service and rural health, but you need to get some insights of which schools really will help you. You have included all the Ohio schools that I think are relevant but should add Heritage OUCOM which has a rural health track... but clarity is needed regarding your state of legal residence if you have so many applications that you want to send to Ohio.

I can clearly see where the mixed message is coming from - I wasn't too sure if it was necessary to indicate my interest in primary care since it is folded into rural medicine. In terms of my experience, I do not have much (if any) EC experience in rural health but grew up in a fringe rural community so I would personally really like to return to similar geographic communities as a physician. This has also heavily influenced my involvement in ResLife during college. I am a bit confused on if you mean I need some personal insight or in terms of schools? Also thank you for suggesting Heritage - I will certainly look into it!

Sorry, I just saw the second part of your question! My legal state of residence is now Washington but I lived in Ohio for over a decade and there is a special "Forever Buckeye" clause that allows any student to obtain in state tuition for medical/graduate school if they attended high school in Ohio. I would apply as an OOS applicant but hope to demonstrate strong ties (as a majority of my support network still lives there and my sibling attends college there)!

I had to look that up. No one else has told me that this "Forever Buckeye" provision would work for medical school and in-state tuition at public institutions. I guess I need to do some homework...

I only recently heard about it but am really impressed by the state’s dedication to have former residents return! Felt like a hidden gem!

Much of my work consisted of cleaning the vicinity (vacuuming, wiping down materials, laying down sheets for seating, washing dishes) as well as preparing meals. These meals were available for the congregation and we has also launched a program to feed the local homeless or anyone else in need as well. I did this about 2-3x a week during high school and college summers, winter breaks etc. I should probably clarify that this place of worship isn't a church or a mosque but something similar.

I worry that this might be not viewed as service to others, unless you play up the service to the homeless. After all, one is supposed help out at one's house of worship. Doing it for others outside your comfort zone is a different thing.

Yea, I understand that - it is totally a fair concern. It is my only form of long term service (I have additional 50-70 hours of tutoring low income middle schoolers and other misc volunteering) so I can try to find an additional opportunity that I feel passionately about (hopefully before the upcoming cycle)!
