Hey guys!

I just got my MCAT scores back and my breakdown was VR: 11, PS: 12, BS: 15 for a total of 38. I currently have a BCPM GPA of 3.88 and an overall GPA of 3.86. I am a resident of Washington state.

I am struggling with how many schools I should apply to because I don't want to waste money and time if I end up getting into lots of schools but at the same time, I don't want to not get in anywhere!

As of now, my list is as follows.....thoughts?!?

Stanford University School of Medicine
University of California San Francisco School of Medicine
Yale University School of Medicine
Harvard Medical School
University of California San Diego School of Medicine
Oregon Health and Science University School of Medicine
Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth
University of Colorado School of Medicine
University of Washington School of Medicine
Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California
University of Arizona College of Medicine
University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine
Boston University School of Medicine
Tufts University School of Medicine
University of Vermont College of Medicine
The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University

It is hard to say how competitive you are without knowing your ECs... I would definitely apply to your state school and other surrounding state schools if they give any preference as well as a handful of mid-tier schools and a a bigger handful of top schools (if your ECs are as good as your test scores).

Agree with October - if you have good volunteering/ECs, and at least 2 years of research with at least one abstract, oral presentation, or poster if not a publication, then your list looks fine. Because at least one of the last 6 or so schools will almost surely take you. If you don't have significant research or volunteering, or there is some other hole in your app like LORs, then you should apply to more schools along the lines of the last 6, especially since you are applying to less than 20 and more than half are the top schools. Good luck!
