Hi All,

I'm trying to finalize my list of schools. I plan on applying to around 17-18 (ideally no more than 20). I'm having a hard time narrowing them down. I'm interested in many Northeast and Midwest schools. I know that schools in NY, PA, and MA get TONS of applications -- I don't know if I would stand out among 11k+ apps at schools like NYMC and Temple... Should I give it a go anyway since they are close to my stats? Or do you think my chances would be higher among the Midwest schools?

Also, given my circumstances, should I be applying to mainly private vs. public schools?

Aim for low-tiers, new schools, and any DO school. Pikesville/KYCOM should be at top of list.

Hi All,

I'm trying to finalize my list of schools. I plan on applying to around 17-18 (ideally no more than 20). I'm having a hard time narrowing them down. Originally lived in KY but moved to New England for college and job afterwards. I haven't stayed at my current state long enough to be considered a resident. I was told by UK/Louisville admissions that I'm no longer automatically considered in-state, although I have a chance if I apply for residency.

I will still be applying to UK and Louisville. I have no problem living in the area and would actually prefer to be near family in KY.

Also, given my circumstances, should I be applying to mainly private vs. public schools?

Stats: GPA 3.7+, MCAT 29 (first take), retake score pending. Average ECs, solid clinical hours, 2 strong MD letters, currently working in a hospital with patient interaction. Any advice with school selection would be greatly appreciated!!

I will be applying to both MD and DO schools. I expressed in a previous thread that I don't have a particular interest in rural medicine, which KYCOM emphasizes... so won't be applying.

Would you recommend more selective, private schools as opposed to less selective, public schools?

Here is a list of schools I am considering. Please help me eliminate or suggest any replacements. I want to keep the MD list no more than 20 -- rather not waste $$$ on schools that I don't even have a chance at.

Again stats: GPA 3.7+, MCAT 29 (first take), retake score pending. Decent ECs, solid clinical hours, 2 strong MD letters, currently in gap year working in a hospital.
