So im studying electrical engineering. My biology, chem, physics gpa is 3.55. Now my major isn't a cakewalk, and i have a 2.85 gpa.

I think my high bio, chem, and physics gpa should show that im capable of taking on the pharmacy curriculum, as its average of students going in. Will my major be taken into consideration since im a electrical engineer? If i do good on the pcat?

Since your pre-requisite GPA is solid (at least that's what it sounds like you're getting at) and if you do well on the PCAT, I think you still have a good shot. From my understanding, pharmD programs are pretty good at looking at the breakdown of your GPA and considering what you majored in. You could probably explain your GPA in one of the optional essays on the PharmCAS (I can't remember if they have one, but I think they do) or supplemental applications as well. When all else fails, just call some PharmD admissions offices and ask them where they stand on GPAs and breaking them down.

You didn't say anything about this, but being "well-rounded" with ECs, volunteering, research, pharmacy experience, etc. can only help you. A solid GPA and PCAT alone don't always make the cut. Certain schools emphasize these aspects more than others do, though.

Since your intended major is electrical engineering, I don't know how pharmacy schools will look at that. I mean, if you show major interest in pharmacy, like EC and shadowing, to make sure that pharmacy is the career you want, then it makes sense that pharmacy schools will see how motivated you are.

If your science GPA is high and also you get a high PCAT score, I'm sure you'll have a good chance in getting into pharmacy school. Good luck! :luck:

You're kidding right? It doesn't matter if you're a 4.0 chem major or a 2.8 music major. Pharmacy schools don't look much to how well or poor who did in your major, and if they do it's probably the last thing they consider to either accept or deny an applicant . If anything, I think it's rad that you majored in something other then the typical bio/health science student.

You certainly do you have a chance at pharmacy since you're science GPA is solid. However, it's not all academics. You need to prove you are a worthy candidate for pharmacy outside of school.

Yeah I agree, and I am so sick of this. I think the reason pharmacy schools only care about overall GPA is because it's a recruiting method and bragging right to show how high of a GPA the accepted applicants had. Some colleges and majors are ridiculously easy to get high GPAs. At an interview two weeks ago someone was straight from a community college, I mean holy crap man. His GPA was probably way higher than mine, but I had to go through hell for my lower GPA (I only hope that I learned much more). I have taken community college courses and it was SUPER easy. Now at a top science university it is quite difficult (mainly time consuming really) to outcompete other equally talented students for grades.

It sucks man, I know engineering is hard/competitive, so I feel you. As someone else mentioned though, you'll need PCAT to be your saving grace. Even with PCAT it is less of a knowledge issue (after a refresher if you did okay in the courses to begin with) and more of a preparing for the speed to answer questions in time. Also, take easy electives to help pad your GPA if possible, everyone else does (since unfortunately schools really don't care, don't know the difference, and ultimately don't have time to check).
