Hello,

THought I'd ask here since there are a lot of students that get to use a great variety of slit lamps on a weekly basis. Do any of you have experience with the Nikon slit lamps? I'm looking specifically at the fs-2 or fs-3 that have the built in photo. I was looking to add a digital camera for ant. seg photos. I don't believe they are made any more, not sure when they stopped.

I've only found one person on the internet that had used them recently, but he thought it was a pretty good one.

Any comments on the use of the slit lamps would be great.

thanks

We have an FS-2 with the 35mmm Photo package. It took excellent photos and is a user friendly slit lamp. The Optics is probably one of the best, IMHO. When Nikon quit making ophthalmic equipment we were very disappointed, but apparently Nikon felt that ophthalmic equipments were not profitable enough.🙄 We tried to switch the camera form the 35mm to a digital Camera, however we were unable to find a digital camera that was compatible with the Slit Lamp’s bayonet mounting and ended up purchasing a Topcon SL-D2 with the digital camera.

thanks for the reply.

I've heard they have good optics. I'm disappointed to hear you couldn't find a digital replacement for the 35mm camera.

What do you think of the digital camera on the d2? I've read several people online mentioning its less than excellent.

thanks again.

We also have a Nikon CS-1 in one of our exam rooms that we use mainly for contacts and anterior seg eval. because the crisp optics.

As far as the D2, it is a bit cumbersome to use however, you can get good digital photos of the anterior seg. and posterior pole with a 90D. We also found that by using a TV monitor in addition to the USB hook up to the CPU made taking photos much easier.

We have had the D2 for 7 months now and over all the D2 is good but I wouldn’t say excellent. You can get decent photos but you will have to work with it for a while. Are the photos excellent? Well, we had a couple of photos that were excellent, so I think there is a learning curve but time will tell.
