Hey all, I'm new here. My story is that I decided a little later on than most (late sophmore year) that I wanted to pursue a career in medicine. As result I got a late jump in getting involved in extracurriculars, clinical experiences, etc. I am currently a senior at UW-Madison and I am going to take a year off before and apply next year. I have a 3.94 cGPA w/ 3.97 sGPA. I got a 30 on the MCAT, but I'm going to retake it considering I was getting 35-37 on the practice tests. As far as experiences, I have volunteered at the hospital for 100+ hours, and I have started research in lab that researches the role of cellular signaling pathways in the differentiation and growth of neuroendocrine tumors. Other than that I really don't have that many extracurricular activities. I am really trying to do some shadowing next semester as well as some other non-clinical volunteering activity (not sure yet). I would really appreciate any advice on activities that would help me strengthen my med school application. Thank you in advance!

oh yea
you totally have no chance :smack:
3.9...30mcat..100 hrs...pfft...weak

You want to take off more time and get more research and shadowing, go ahead, but if you seriously believe you can't get in somewhere with what you have already.......

Besides the medical and nonmedical volunteering, shadowing, and research, you might look into some leadership, teaching, and think about which hobbies and artistic involvement to list.

Thanks for the replies guys! I was just perusing through the forums and realized that quantity-wise I didn't have as many ECs as other applicants. My dream school is Northwestern so I figured I need lots more (obviously MCAT needs to be raised but I think thats very doable).

means high ranked schools like jhu, columbia, mayo, uchicago, etc.
No, not gonna do that. I mean unless my 2nd MCAT is off the charts. Northwestern would probably be the highest ranked one I would apply to.
