I graduated last year with my MD. And I am currently doing my pgi in Nepal.... I am a Nepali citizen and my wife is an US citizen... Does anyone know the requirements to take the USMLE? Do I have to be a citizen? Or have my green card? Will I be able to take the USMLE if I'm only on my tourist visa? Please help 🙂... I want to stay in US and practice there. My wife will also petition me to be a citizen.

Yeah you definitely don't have to be a US citizen or greencard holder to take the USMLE. Thousands of non-US citizens all the time take it.

You don't even have to be a US citizen or greencard to apply to residencies, its just easier to get into residencies if you are a US citizen/greencard because its less hassle.

So take the USMLE and if you can get your greencard before you apply for residency in the US thats your best option.

If you can't get your greencard before you apply you can still apply its more difficult but possible.
