Hello,
So I have an academic institutional action from 4 years ago that I will need to write about in my AMCAS/AACOMAS. Before you rush to judge and tell me that I won't make it into medical school with an IA, please refrain. I've already spoken to various schools about it and given the rest of my application, as long as I talk about it and what I've done since, I will be okay. I was wondering if an ADCOM members or people who have previously been in this type of situation (IA on record) would be willing to read my explanation or provide any advice on how to navigate the application with this type of red flag. Also, I would like to know how you go about addressing the IA on secondaries (if at all). I am a reapplicant who had interviews last year, but for a combination of reasons, was ultimately not accepted. I know that some secondaries give space to talk about any additional information you want the committee to know; is that where I would talk about the IA again? Anyone who has any type of experience with this, or an adcom with advice, please let me know! Thank you!
It was an academic integrity violation regarding research.

I think that I might have tried to brush it off in a way that I shoudn't have. Would you Mind you mind reading it and giving me your opinion?
Does the IA show up on you transcript?
Excellent Question!
Though you are treading on "morality" grounds here. Even if the IA doesn't show up on the transcript, you are still ethically obligated to report it. Now the chance of med schools finding out about the IA if it isn't on transcripts...is, well let's not get into that right now.
Not on transcript = Never happened
Don't let SDN scare you
It does show up on my transcripts, and even if it didn't I would still write about it because I don't want anything to be hidden. It was a dumb mistake 4 years ago and I've definitely done a great deal since then to make up for it. But ultimately, I got a reduced grade.
Are you sure? I have an IA, and it isn't on transcripts.
What if med schools explicitly request a copy of your disciplinary record from the dean's office during its routine background checks of accepted students?
What does it say on transcript?
If an IA shows up on the transcript, it usually means that it was a serious event that likely resulted in suspension. The OP should tell us more regarding what happened.
I thought the background checks were for criminal charges...are they also disciplinary background checks? Either way, I'm going to be honest and upfront about it. I have nothing to hide and I'm willing to take responsibility for it. The situation gave me an enhanced respect and appreciation for ethical and honest behavior.
No, I wasn't suspended for it. I got my grade in the research course reduced, but that was it. It's still on my transcript though because it went to a committee.
Thank you for this. How do I contact someone from that confidential forum? There's a 'confidential' forum here somewhere where you can post more information anonymously (through a moderator) and get better feedback. Anyone starting to read here now would have virtually nothing to go on, so could offer no useful advice other that 'own it' and 'be honest' -- which I'm sure you've read here before.
