I got a C in my chem. Class but I retook it and received an A , would DO schools drop the C from my grade point average and then replace it with an A, I know both will be viewed on the transcribed but if this is true then the chances for me to raise my GPA is high. Please tell me if this is true for DO schools.

Also can someone tell me the process of how my grades from other university are computed for the final GPA? Does AACOM combine all grades even if it?s not from the same university or do they spit them? I believe my university spits my gpa into two; one from the university I now attend and the other that I attended before.

Osteopathic schools' admissions committees don't do anything magical with your GPA. It is what it is. You cannot erase a C in osteo-land any more than you can in allo-land.

As for computing your GPA, I'm not sure what you mean. Just compute it as you normally would and that will get you pretty much the same numbers that the application services will churn out. A tenth of a percentage point won't make or break you either way, in most cases.

Do your best, be a well-rounded somewhat socially literate person, do decently well on the MCAT, and get mostly As and B's in undergrad and you will eventually get to medical school.

The AACOMAS (unike the AMCAS) will average your most recent grade in when calculating your GPA. The C will show up on the transcript, but the A will be figured when the 'composite' GPA is posted along with your MCAT. This is a benefit to you (as it was to me). Also be prepared to explain classes that were retaken and why...you would be surprised how foolish one can sound when they think they will know answers to questions like these right off the top of their head. It is easy to get flusteres.
