Hello, I wanted to ask you all a question. I'm a senior in high school this year. Right now I'm gathering application for colleges. Well, recently I became a resident of Louisiana, so I can get a full paid tuition to a state university. But the truth is I don't want to go to the university in Louisiana. At first I had problems with English, so during my 9th grade I did pretty bad in school. But then I managed to pull myself up and now I get straight A's. Well the school system is not that challenging, but I'm trying to make most of it so I take the hardest classes offered. The thing is no matter what I do I can't get a good ACT score. I'm taking all SAT's this fall, but I'm afraid I will not score anywhere near perfect. I would really like to attend Rice University, but I'm afraid my ACT scores will close all doors for me from competitive universities. I have good study habits, and I don't mind a challenge I know I can do it. What should I do to get into Rice or JHU for example with low ACTs? Or is there anyway to raise my scores? I tried Princeton Review, but the test nothing like the book. Please help.
PS:How much does the college effects acceptance into Med.School?

You know this has been discussed ad nauseum on these forums. The college you attend *may* give you a slight advantage when adcoms are comparing two students with the same stats...the student from the ivy may get picked over the other student. But let us be realistic how often do you think this situation really happens? not much. So go the place where YOU will be happy and EXCEL. The bottom line is your grades, your mcat, your ec's, your lors, etc...no matter where you go you need to kick arse! so relax.

You say The Princeton Review book was nothing like the test. Did you take a full class with a teacher or did you just buy a book from the bookstore?

Take the class and work very hard at it. Your score should improve.

LSU is a relatively easy state med school to get into if you have residence.

Besides....an education is what you make it.

Orgo is orgo is orgo is orgo is orgo.....
