I am a new member at this SDN.The few visits i made to this site helped me alot more than my advisor did!.I am pre-dental student somewhere in the south east.I have a couple of questions that i may need some help with. The first question is, is it too late to take your DAT in the middle of october for admission to dental school in Fall of 2006?.I have been studying my DAT over the summer on and off(that means not consistent).I have a part time job (25-30hrs) and a full load of senior courses.Today i registered for the DAT eventhough i haven't picked the exact date yet(i think they will confirm it with me later)!.Could someone expLAIN to me if it is too late on taking in it on october?.I have ordered the scolarware this week. What is the effective way of using it once i get hold of it(i mean how does it work).I am currently using some Kaplan material like the blue book and the practice test(eventhough they seem harder).Thank you for your help in advance!.Another unstable pre-dental student asking for your help.

Hello, I am a new member as well, so welcome... As for taking your DAT in october, I know some schools say they require the score no later than Nov.. Some are later like DEC, and it says it can take up to 6 weeks for the scores to get there.. I dont want to say yes or no, because someone else would know better than me, but I would say check the schools websites that your applying to, most of them tell you. As for the Topscore, from scholarware, It contains 3 full tests, I would study for 2-3 weeks (using Kaplan and textbooks), then burn a test, see where you stand, go over the test, review the material you missed, get practice on the PAT and Reading, then repeat 2-3 weeks later until the big day.. Thats what ive been doing.. although im just as nervous and shaken up as everyone else...

Thanks,i will check their websites.Goodluck to you too!
PS:Where is the advice of the big names i see around? guys i really need your two cents here.

ENTO, I'm in a similar situation in regards to timing as you are (mid oct DAT planned). Depending on what school you are applying to, there is a final submission date (anywhere from late fall to march 1st). The later you got your app completed (AADSAS, DAT scores etc etc), the more you are at a disadvantage of getting an interview invite (interview invite = only way of getting an acceptance letter). If you check the pre-dental forum, you may see that a lot of SDN'ers have already gotten interview invites and scheduled their dates, this was because they got their apps completed ASAP (by mid summer or so). I've never heard of DAT scores taking as long as you described, typically, a few business days and they are at the schools you indicated you wanted them to be sent.
I'm re-taking the DAT so i'm good on some stuff and rusty on others. Basically, if you read the study schedules of people who get real high scores, they bust their asses off 4-8 hours every day. So get crackin' and study your ass off and get a score that schools will notice....

(oh and limit yourself to browsing SDN during study breaks!)

A mid-October DAT is pushing the limits. Usually only very strong students with strong GPA's and DAT scores fare well that late in the game.
